90 Day Fiance alum Big Ed Brown is going under the knife for a much-needed medical procedure, but his thick neck proved a complication requiring a delay. He revealed he tried to get this operation before but there were technical difficulties.
90 Day Fiance: Big Ed Brown Needs Surgery
Right now, Big Ed Brown is in an operating room, under anesthesia for a much-needed medical procedure. Unlike many of his fellow TLC alums, he’s not getting cosmetic work done. So, don’t look for Ed to come out of this with new teeth, boobs, or a butt lift.
It’s something much more mundane plaguing Ed. The 90 Day Fiance star needs rotator cuff surgery. In one post he referred to it correctly, but in another, Ed called it “rotator cup” surgery. It’s cuff – not cup. The bottom line is that people who need this operation usually have extreme shoulder pain.
Surprisingly, he had his wife Liz Woods up on his shoulders in the pool recently which might not have helped his symptoms any.
When Ed offered an update on his surgery today from his hospital bed, he revealed Liz dropped him off, but if all goes well, he’ll be out today since it’s just an outpatient procedure.
90 Day Fiance Star Admits – Missing the Right Equipment for the Job…
This is a surgery Ed Brown’s been trying to schedule for several weeks now. Back on September 23, he updated that he was at an outpatient facility for the rotator cuff procedure, but it didn’t happen.
He and Liz even had a date night the night before since he knew he’d be recuperating. The 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days star said, “they didn’t have the right equipment” at the outpatient surgery center where he went. So, they “could not do the surgery”. Why?
Big Ed said, “because of the size of my neck, they worried they couldn’t establish an airway”. So, to err on the side of caution, they wanted him to have the operation at a hospital, not an outpatient center. So, they went to Palm Springs for an impromptu vacation instead.
What is Rotator Cuff Surgery Anyway? Ed Brown’s Operation Explained
The 90 Day Fiance alum is having his rotator cuff repaired. So, what is a rotator cuff anyway? It’s the muscles and tendons that together form a cuff over your shoulder joint. They hold the arm in place and allow proper motion (when they’re working right).
When you tear a tendon in that group, your doctor may advise surgery to repair it. The procedure is usually under general anesthesia which requires intubation because your body generally won’t breathe on its own.
That seems to be the concern the other facility had with operating on Big Ed Brown from 90 Day Fiance — given his shorter neck. Once they get Ed from 90 Day Fiance under anesthesia, they will either make one large incision or use an arthroscopic method with several smaller cuts to access the injured tissue.
If it’s a larger or more invasive tear, the open incision is often used but since Ed seems to be functioning okay, he may be having the arthroscopic, less invasive procedure. With this, they insert a camera into the shoulder through a small incision.
Then other small incisions are made to insert tools. They reattach the tendon to the bone. And they may use small rivets (suture anchors) combined with suture to firmly reattach the tendon into place.
Ed Brown will be in a sling for the next few weeks and a full recovery can take up to six months post-op. But at least he’s got his wife Liz by his side.
We leaked months ago that they were set to marry on August 1. They now self-refer as husband and wife, but haven’t confirmed so maybe TLC taped the ceremony…
