Nebraska football will begin the second half of its 2023 football season as a home favorite against Northwestern.
Online oddsmakers weighed in on the Huskers and Wildcats on Sunday afternoon, with Nebraska opening as 10-point favorites over the Wildcats.
The Huskers will be coming in off a bye week. Nebraska dispatched Illinois 20-7 last Friday, moving the Huskers to 1-2 in Big Ten play and 3-3 on the season.
Northwestern will also be coming to Lincoln off a bye week. The Wildcats sit at 3-3 on the season, having knocked off Minnesota at home in overtime, while also owning wins over UTEP and Howard. The Wildcats went to the wire with Howard, winning 23-20 after allowing 20 points after halftime.
Nebraska owns a 9-7 all-time advantage in the series, including the last two matchups in Lincoln. Northwestern captured a win in last year’s matchup between the two teams in Dublin, with a 31-28 victory.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule said during his bye week press conference that he’s eager for his team to attack the second half of the season.
«For the second half of the season we should try to win every game,» he said. «We’ll have a chance in every game and also there’s not a team that can’t beat us. There’s not a team we can’t beat and there’s not a team that can’t beat us so we will probably just prepare at a high level and I hope the one thing we learned from last week was what seemed like really hard like we’re in full pads on a Sunday the day after we played Michigan probably will end up being one of the better memories from the year and probably led to one of their best weeks of football and that gave them the right to have that swagger…I told them if you practice that way, then you earn the right to play that way so I think they understand that they have to prepare, they have to have edge, they have to play a certain way and they have to play as a team.»
