Nebraska’s defense will have a big piece back in 2024 as Ty Robinson announced he will return. Nebraska football learned this week that it will have a big piece of its defense back for the 2024 season.
Defensive lineman Ty Robinson said Tuesday he told the coaching staff this week that he will be back for a sixth season. Robinson, who is enjoying a breakout season in 2023, said he didn’t stress about the decision, but said there is more work to do.
“I put a lot of thought into it,” Robinson said Tuesday. “I was out last winter and spring with an injury, so I only had two months to get ready for football. Coach Rhule and Coach Knighton made a joke that when we played last week that it was really week three football for me because that’s how far behind I was with football.
“With my dreams and aspirations to go on to the next level, I think coming back and really sharpen some tools and some skills that I need will help.” Robinson said he delivered the news to Rhule after returning from the trip to Wisconsin. Robinson said Rhule was “all for it.”
“I’m really impressed with Coach Rhule and everyone on staff,” Robinson said. “He runs a tight ship and it’s pretty sound up there. It definitely goes into it — being in that environment and you know that there’s not going to be anything crazy going on.”
In 11 games this season, Robinson has 27 tackles — four for loss — and one sack for 12 yards. The Arizona native also has nine quarterback hurries and five pass breakups this season as the Husker defense has made dramatic improvement against the run in Rhule’s first season in Lincoln. Robinson’s tackle and tackle for loss totals are tied with his career highs.
Robinson said he’s eager for what’s ahead in the program and his future.
“I love this game so much and I’m ready to come back and keep going,” Robinson said.
