Deavan Clegg from 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way has fans worried after revealing news of her son Taeyang being admitted to the hospital due to a “dangerous” condition. Deavan started her reality TV career with The Other Way season 1, during which she was pregnant with Taeyang, whose father is Korean man Jihoon Lee. Deavan and Jihoon met on a dating app, and he flew to the U.S. to meet her, where they became pregnant on their first date night. Deavan’s storyline showed her adjusting to life in South Korea after she married Jihoon. However, the marriage did not last and Deavan returned to America, where she started raising Taeyang alone.
Deavan revealed Taeyang had been diagnosed with cancer in May 2022, and while Deavan’s toddler continues to battle with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, his health has been sharply declining.
On December 6, 2023, Deavan shared Instagram Stories to let her followers know that Taeyang was feeling sick but was “resting a lot and drinking a lot of fluids.” Her next update showed a picture of Taeyang on a hospital bed, wearing a mask and covered with a blanket. “Taeyang’s health took a turn for the worse,” Deavan wrote in her caption. She revealed the child had a temperature of 103.8, “which is dangerous for cancer patients.”
Deavan told her Instagram followers that Taeyang was most likely going to be taken to the hospital for treatment due to his symptoms. Deavan’s fear came true because Taeyang was admitted after the professionals did further bloodwork. “We will know more soon,” she wrote before adding, “His health is worse than we know.”
However, Deavan remained positive that her brave child would be able to fight through it. Deavan created a post showing Taeyang playing with stickers to talk to her well-wishers about his sticker shop. She told them that they could help her son and make him happy by ordering his stickers.
In a different post, Deavan shared a new update to confirm Taeyang was still in hospital. He was diagnosed with strep throat and pneumonia, “which can be dangerous.” Deavan wrote that Taeyang would be in the hospital until further notice. She and her family hope that the child will recover quickly. “When you have cancer it’s easier to catch sicknesses,” Deavan explained. She mentioned that a child with cancer falling sick becomes dangerous and scary because of this reason. She wanted to share a reminder about «how awful cancer is.”
It had been a week since Taeyang celebrated his 3rd birthday when he was diagnosed with blood cancer, which is more common in young children. Taeyang had already started chemotherapy when Deavan told the heartbreaking news to 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way viewers. She had said it was going to be a long two-year process, but it had a high success rate of full recovery in five years. Meanwhile, Jihoon, who knows about Taeyang’s cancer, has never supported his son financially or emotionally, according to Deavan’s mother, Elicia Clegg.
