There was big news on the Nebraska football quarterback front Saturday as 2024 commit Daniel Kaelin canceled his visit to Michigan State. He remains a solid commitment to the Huskers, per On3’s Sean Callahan.
This is certainly good news, as Kaelin was thought to be a key part of the 2024 recruiting class. He was filmed on Friday night working out with 2024 wide receiver commit Dae’vonn Hall and current Nebraska football tight end Thomas Fidone.
Callahan also indicated that Nebraska will take two quarterbacks for the 2024 class. 2024 five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola is also visiting this weekend. This will undoubtedly help the depth at the position. Quarterback Jeff Sims entered the transfer portal earlier this week, and the futures of Chubba Purdy and Heinrich Haarberg as it relates to the quarterback room remain uncertain.
Kaelin had a strong season for Bellevue West this fall. He played in 11 games, throwing for 2225 yards, 17 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He averaged 202.3 yards per game and had an 89.9 quarterback rating.
What does this mean for Nebraska football?
This is certainly a big news for Nebraska for. For one, it keeps a very talented quarterback in the program. Kaelin was part of the Elite 11 Tournament, and shined while he was there. Secondly, this gives Nebraska a chance to have a loaded quarterback room, should Dylan Raiola commit.
Another major angle is the fact that Nebraska football is able to keep Kaelin home. The 2024 class has several talented Nebraska kids in it, headlined by Carter Nelson. Kaelin helped recruit Nelson, Hall, Isaiah McMorris and Grant Brix among others. Keeping those connections in the program is important.
In any event, this is certainly big news, as it means that the Nebraska football quarterback room has a bit more of a clearer picture. On paper, the quarterback room is much improved, as the program continues to build for the future.
