Nebraska football is already suffering some negative fallout on the recruiting trail from the resignation of secondary coach Evan Cooper.
Nebraska football doesn’t seem capable of having a quiet offseason. Last year, Matt Rhule had to replace tight ends coach Bob Wager before the season started and now, Rhule will have to replace another assistant coach.
This time, it’s Evan Cooper, long-time assistant of Matt Rhule who resigned his position on Friday for personal reasons according to ESPN.
Cooper was the secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator for the Huskers. Cooper played a key role in the improvement of the defense last season, plus he was vital on the recruiting trail, both as an evaluator and a recruiter.
It’s a huge blow for Nebraska football, especially since it’s less than a month before fall camp starts. Nebraska football is searching for a replacement, but in the meantime, the Huskers are already taking hits on the recruiting trail.
4-star target of Nebraska football delays decision
Bryson Webber, a four-star cornerback from Texas, was set to announce a commitment on Saturday. Nebraska football was among the top contenders and most expected Webber, a 6-foot-2 cornerback ranked No. 295 overall in the 2025 class out of Missouri City, to commit to the Huskers. It would have been the fourth blue-chip commitment.
However, a decision that was going to come on Saturday has now been delayed according to Bryan Munson of Husker Online. Webber wants to see who Nebraska football hires as the defensive back coach before he makes a decision, which tells you that this commitment was a done deal before Cooper’s abrupt resignation.
Utah and TCU are in the mix, but others are certain to join the fray. Webber is a four-star cornerback with a recruitment that’s a lot more wide-open than it was before Friday.
