Tommy Armstrong Jr., a former quarterback for the University of Nebraska, announced his retirement from football on social media after deciding to have surgery.
Playing quarterback for Nebraska from 2013–2016, and later for the Omaha Beef of the National Arena League
All-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns for Nebraska, and held the record for total offense until 2021
“… with surgery coming around the corner I’ve decided to officially step away from the game. I appreciate every organization/teammates that believed in me. Every good thing has to come to an end and there is no other way to do it but on top.”
The former Husker was the MVP of the game, finishing the night 12-of-15 passing for 166 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran 17 times for 95 yards and four touchdowns.
Armstrong played at Nebraska from 2013 to 2016. In 45 career games, he threw for 8,871 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 44 interceptions. He ran for 1,819 yards and 24 touchdowns.
The quarterback ended his career in Lincoln as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. He held the record for total offense (10,690 yards), but that was broken in 2021 by Adrian Martinez.
Armstrong also helped save a family from a house fire in his hometown of Gulfport, Mississippi.
