Matt Rhule and Malachi Coleman announced that Coleman is leaving the Husker football program to enter the transfer portal.

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey.
To my coaches, I cannot thank you enough for the guidance, wisdom, and opportunity to grow both as a football player and as a person. The lessons I’ve learned here will shape me for the rest of my life.
To my teammates-my brothers-thank you for every practice, every game, and every moment we’ve shared. You’ve pushed me to be my best every day and I will always cherish our time together.
To my family, I wouldn’t be the man I am today without your unconditional love and unwavering support.
To the fans, thank you for making my time here unforgettable and welcoming me with open arms.
With that being said, after careful consideration, prayer and reflection on my goals and future, I have made the difficult decision to enter the transfer portal. This decision was not taken lightly, and while it’s bittersweet, I believe this decision will allow me to reach new heights and pursue my goals with renewed purpose.
I will forever be thankful for the relationships I’ve built, the lessons I’ve learned, and the experiences I’ve had here. Wearing the N and fulfilling my childhood dream of playing for my hometown has been an honor.

Under new NCAA rules that limit football rosters to 105 players, Nebraska and the current roster will be needing to make some difficult decisions in the coming weeks. Coleman is redshirting in 2024 while recovering from an injury. As a true freshman, Coleman started six games in 2023, catching eight passes for 139 yards which included a 44 yard touchdown catch against Northwestern.
