It’s no surprise Nebraska signee Caden VerMaas is excited about the news that John Butler, the defensive backs coach for the Cornhuskers, is being elevated to defensive coordinator.
After all, VerMaas has steadily been building a relationship with Butler since the coach’s arrival in July. It was during the initial get-to-know-you phase VerMaas learned that his new coach might hit him up at any time.
«He goes out of his way to call his recruits and ask them about their week and checks in on them,» VerMaas said of Butler. «Perfect example a week ago he was dropping his son off at the airport and then called me immediately after.
«He’s a super cool dude and fans will love him. Just gotta give him time to settle into the new position.»
VerMaas reiterated that for him it’s both Butler’s acumen as a coach and his personality. That blend makes the newly named coordinator pretty intriguing to work with for the future Husker.
«It’s a great hire,» VerMaas said. «Really good dude and is a very experienced coach who knows his stuff. Will make in-game adjustments well since he’s been an NFL guy.»
Recent cornerback signee Bryson Webber has been impressed with Butler in the conversations they’ve had.
