Dante Dowdell is planning to enter the transfer portal, a source close to the running back confirmed to Husker247 on Monday night.
Having transferred to the Nebraska program last offseason, Dowdell played in every game and had seven starts.
He led the Huskers in the regular season with 143 carries, 614 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. That touchdown total was the most by a Husker running back since the 2018 season.
The Huskers looked to have a nice 1-2 punch developing at running back, particularly the last three games, with Emmett Johnson and Dowdell.
«It really matters to him,» Husker running backs coach E.J. Barthel said of Dowdell’s work ethic during the season. «The one thing that jumps off is he’s constantly watching film, trying to add elements to his game.»
Nebraska received good news last week when Johnson announced his planned return to the Huskers for the 2025 season.
Mekhi Nelson was said to be making some strides behind the scenes and Kwinten Ives is in that room too. Also incoming are Jamarion Parker and Conor Booth from the recent class.
Gabe Ervin Jr. already announced his plans to enter the portal and Rahmir Johnson will play his last game as a senior in the Pinstripe Bowl.
While there was brief intrigue in Husker circles on Monday when Kewan Lacy, a former Nebraska commit, moved into the portal after a season at Missouri, he has committed to Ole Miss.
