Nebraska added more competition to its special teams units, picking up a commitment from Washington transfer punter Jack McCallister following a weekend visit.
McCallister, who started three seasons at Washington, will have one season of eligibility remaining in Lincoln. He signed with Nebraska on Tuesday.
This past season, McCallister punted 36 times, averaging 44.0 yards per kick and having 12 of his 36 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Each of his three years, McAllister improved his average punting numbers. Eight of his 36 punts in 2024 went 50 yards or more.
McCallister handled every punt for Washington in 2023 and 2024 and all but one punt during the 2022 season. He also handled holding duties on Washington’s special teams units.
The 6-foot, 205-pound McCallister is a native of Edmonds, Washington.
The Huskers also have punter Kamdyn Koch on the roster for next season coming off a redshirt season, and will need to find a replacement for Brian Buschini, who has handled punting and occasionally kickoff duties for Nebraska over the last three seasons.
