Nebraska landed a major commitment on Thursday from one of its primary targets.
Wide receiver Nyziah Hunter should be a main one for Dylan Raiola in 2025. The wideout confirmed to Husker247 he committed to Nebraska during his visit to Lincoln. He arrived to town on Wednesday night.
The former Cal receiver had 40 catches for 578 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman. He brings good size that will offer variety to a returning talent like Jacory Barney Jr. too.
The 6-2, 210-pound Hunter was viewed as a leading target of Nebraska among receivers available in this portal. Certainly having a QB1 dialed in on the process didn’t hurt Nebraska’s cause either.
«It’s tremendously important,» the Husker quarterback Raiola said on Thursday during bowl game Zoom call before the Hunter news broke. «In order to get where we want to get we’ve got to get good players. In that process now of portal guys coming in and just going to dinner, hanging out with them. You try to get to know them before they get on their visits so when they’re here you know a good bit about them. It’s been fun and definitely a priority. It’s cool to meet new guys who come from different programs.»
Hunter is ranked No. 70 among all available prospects in the portal. His three remaining years of eligibility add to his allure as a prospect. He also was a consistent stat filler, much like Barney, even in his first year of competing at this level. He had at least three catches in nine of the 12 games as a freshman at Cal.
Husker offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, who also spoke with media on Thursday, will no doubt enjoy having Hunter as a weapon.
While it’s a time where departures on a roster are inevitable, the Huskers are right now in that adding phase of the portal game.
«The few kids that decided to do that, we wish them well,» Holgorsen said of this month of constant movement in college football. «And you just go replace them. It’s as simple as that.»
