January is always an interesting month in Nebraska football. The Huskers will have a number of signees and transfer additions already on the roster and could begin classes as early as Thursday with the pre-session offerings at Nebraska.
Winter conditioning begins this month as the Huskers begin the long build to the start of the 2025 season and while Corey Campbell and staff handle that Nebraska coaches are out on the road for the first time this recruiting cycle, allowing for Matt Rhule and his staff to get a jump on 2026 recruits, to get out and see transfer portal additions who haven’t yet made decisions and to begin evaluation processes for 2027 and beyond.
The Huskers can also choose to and likely will host junior days this month as it cannot until March and the staff has used this time in the past with previous cycles.
Here’s a look at the important dates for the month:
January 1-5: Quiet period for potential midyear enrollee transfers from 2 or 4 year colleges.
January 2: Spring Pre-session begins
January 6: Contact period begins. Nebraska coaches can go out on the road and visit with recruits.
January 12: Coaches off the road but recruits can still visit Nebraska.
January 13-15: Dead period. No in person contact.
January 16: Contact period begins again. Coaches back on the road.
January 17: Pre-session ends
January 21: First day of spring semester at Nebraska
January 28: Last day to enroll for spring semester at Nebraska — essentially any midyear transfer enrollee would need to be on campus and enrolled by this point.
