Marquis Groves-Killebrew, who committed to the Huskers after entering the transfer portal in December, has withdrawn his name from the portal, according to 247Sports sources. It’s expected that the cornerback will return to the Arizona program where he played last season.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Groves-Killebrew began his career at Texas A&M before transferring to Louisville and then Arizona, where he was a starter last year.
He appeared in 10 games for the Wildcats and finished with 26 tackles and four pass breakups. He had entered the transfer portal on Dec. 26 and committed to NU on Jan. 9. Groves-Killebrew still has two years to play.
Nebraska did have significant news made public on Friday evening regarding its secondary, with veteran safety DeShon Singleton announcing his plans to play one more season in Lincoln.
Even with the news, Nebraska is not short on defensive backs heading to the spring, having added Andrew Marshall (Idaho), Jusytn Rhett (Georgia) and Jamir Conn (Southern Illinois) out of the portal to go with the returners.
Included in those returners are veterans Singleton, Ceyair Wright, Marques Buford Jr. and Malcolm Hartzog. They’ll have a new defensive backs coach in 2025 in Addison Williams, who takes over that position with John Butler elevated to Nebraska’s defensive coordinator.
