Alex Killorn scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and also had an assist as the Anaheim Ducks scored three unanswered goals to rally for a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday afternoon.
Mason McTavish and Frank Vatrano also scored goals and Leo Carlsson had two assists for Anaheim, which won for the fourth time in its last five games. Lukas Dostal finished with 21 saves as the Ducks improved to 21-0-2 when they score three or more goals in a game.
Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak scored goals and Sam Montembeault made 19 saves for Montreal, which lost its fifth straight game.
Montreal, playing the opener of a three-game road trip through California, took a 1-0 lead at 10:35 of the first period on a short-handed goal by Armia. Jake Evans set up the scoring by pushing the puck away from Jackson LaCombe at the offensive blue line and then finished a man-down run with a cross-court pass to Armia, who broke through in front of the net and finished with a wrist shot past Dostal’s glove side.
The Canadiens increased the lead to 2-0 later in the period on a power-play goal from Dvorak. He capitalized on a rebound from Mike Matheson’s point shot.
Anaheim, playing without leading scorer Troy Terry (illness), rallied to tie it in the second period with two goals in a 40-second span.
McTavish got the first when he deflected Killorn’s shot from the top of the right circle off the far right post for his seventh goal in six games. Vatrano followed with his fifth goal in six games with a wrist shot from the edge of the left circle off a pass from Ryan Strome.
Killorn then put Anaheim up 3-2 at 11:11 of the third period when he whipped a wrist shot from the center of the right circle through traffic, hit the far post and went in for the game-winner.
Montreal pulled Montembeault for an extra attacker with 2:07 left and Dostal turned away three shots to seal the win.
