Dasan McCullough appreciates the fervor for Kansas City that he’s felt since joining Nebraska.
Nebraska’s foray into Kansas City this offseason helped the Huskers net a handful of high school players, but the Huskers also brought in several transfer additions with ties to the biggest metro near Lincoln.
On Tuesday JACK linebacker Dasan McCullough talked about how much Kansas City connection he’s found since joining the team.
«I didn’t realize until I got here how much you guys like Kansas City,» McCullough said. «It was a comforting feeling seeing that from everybody. I have a lot of teammates from Kansas City as well, that’s been kind of cool to pick up on, especially some of the younger dudes who are from around Kansas City.»
McCullough lived in the area until moving to Indiana, where his father and former Chiefs running backs coach Deland McCullough took over as an associate head coach and running backs coach. He’s since been with Notre Dame and is now back in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The linebacker was a known high school name during his time at Blue Valley North.
«Guys were coming to me and were like ‘Oh, I came to watch your game.’ And they were in middle school, some of those dudes,» he said.
While McCullough was familiar with Jamar Mozee by name there wasn’t much crossover for the the linebacker and the now Nebraska recruiting staffer who previously was the head coach at Lee’s Summit North.
Since Mozee joined the Huskers he’s helped draw players like his son Isaiah Mozee, as well as transfer Williams Nwaneri, transfer Jamir Conn and high school signees Juju Marks and Dawson Merritt.
This is the most Kansas City metro natives on Nebraska’s roster going back to when the Huskers were more prominently recruiting the area under Bo Pelini’s staff.
The Huskers aren’t looking to be done in recruiting Kansas City either as 2026 Raymore-Peculiar running back Dezephen Walker is a big target for the staff and has an official visit set for the end of the month.
