Nebraska Football Dismisses Transfer Wide Receiver Hardley Gilmore IV.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule announced Saturday the dismissal of transfer wide receiver Hardley Gilmore IV from the Cornhuskers football program. Gilmore, who joined the team from Kentucky during the offseason, is no longer with the program.
Rhule clarified that the dismissal was not due to any criminal activity or issues outside the program. «Nothing outside the program, nothing criminal or anything like that,» Rhule stated.
Gilmore, a Florida native, spent one season at Kentucky after re-classifying and enrolling early. During his time in the SEC, he recorded six receptions for 153 yards, despite missing the first five games of the season due to injury.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound receiver was a three-star prospect out of high school and ranked as the No. 49 wide receiver in the transfer portal during the winter. He was part of a group of new additions to the Nebraska wide receiver corps, which also includes former Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key and Cal transfer Nyziah Hunter.
Rhule emphasized that the team’s wide receiver group is still a «work in progress,» noting that many players are new to the system but are learning quickly.
Gilmore’s transition to Nebraska was notable, especially given his prior coaching relationship with current Nebraska wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts at Kentucky. Earlier this spring, Shorts had expressed optimism about Gilmore’s development in Lincoln, stating, «This is the perfect place for him. Coach Rhule does a heckuva job. He doesn’t take it easy. He pushes those guys. He builds relationships but he also holds them accountable. I think a lot of the off-field stuff with Hardley is carrying over to the football. He’s put on a lot of weight since he’s got here so he’s done a good job.»
Despite this initial optimism, Gilmore’s tenure at Nebraska has been cut short. The team will now move forward without his participation.
