There was a time, in my younger years, when I wasn’t proud to be his son. I resented the sacrifices he made, I didn’t understand him, I didn’t see the strength it took to carry the weight of a family on his shoulders in silence. He always said, «Never forget where you come from, you are African, and that is your strength.» Those words will echo in me for the rest of my life.
I’m heartbroken, but l’m also filled with gratitude, cuz being his son is something l’ll forever be proud of, he lives on in me, in my children, in everything good I try to pass forward.
