Former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost, now at UCF, raised eyebrows on Tuesday with comments on his Husker tenure.
Former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost is back in college football this year, returning to Central Florida as the program’s head coach.
Frost, of course, was fired by Nebraska three games into the 2022 season after going 16–31 after four-plus years in Lincoln.
Frost made his first public appearance at Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday in Texas and was asked what he learned from his experience as the head coach at his alma mater.
The former Husker head coach has normally avoided saying much about his time in Lincoln, but on Tuesday seemed to try to distance himself from his failed Husker coaching tenure, saying that what he learned was ‘don’t take the wrong job.’
«I said I wouldn’t leave (UCF) unless it was someplace you could win a national championship,» Frost said, according to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini. «I got tugged in a direction to try to help my alma mater and didn’t really want to do it. It wasn’t a good move. I’m lucky to get back to a place where I was a lot happier.»
Frost didn’t lead Nebraska to a bowl game in his time in Lincoln and the Huskers were 5-22 in one-score games under Frost.
The comments from Frost certainly made it to Nebraska, where Husker fans and media weighed in on the comments.

Guys, it’s really hard to fathom 16-31.
The man who preceded Frost, who was FAR more of a laughingstock upon his exit, who Frost frequently cited as a weak leader, went 19-19 at NU.
If Mike Riley had returned in 2018 & gone 0-12, he STILL would’ve had a better record than Frost
