5-star safety Tory Pittman III commits to Nebraska

The Nebraska Cornhuskers’ football program has secured a major commitment for its 2027 recruiting class, with star in-state safety Tory Pittman III announcing his decision to join the Big Red on Friday.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Pittman is a highly-touted recruit, ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect in the country and the nation’s top safety, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. His commitment is a significant win for the Huskers, as he chose them over offers from other top Power Four programs, including LSU, Michigan, and Oregon.

Pittman’s talent and maturity have been praised by his coaches. “He’s mature for his age,” said Omaha Central assistant coach Abdul Muhammad. “Always been a big kid for his age. One of the top athletes all the time… he understands. This has really driven him.” Pittman himself noted that his experience as a receiver has helped him improve his defensive skills. «Playing receiver helps me as a defensive back because I can identify routes better and identify the concepts. I know their moves,» he said.

The star safety has also proven his elite talent on a national stage. Muhammad recalled an instance where Pittman was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player at a 7-on-7 tournament in Miami, an accomplishment that “just solidifies ‘who I am, the possibilities of what I can become if I keep working. I just showed that I can play with anybody in the country.'»

Pittman is the second commit for Nebraska’s 2027 class, and his high-profile addition brings a significant boost of star-power to the team’s future defensive unit. His commitment signals a major recruiting victory for the Huskers as they continue to build for the future.
