The Nebraska Cornhuskers’ tight end room has received a significant boost with the addition of senior Heinrich Haarberg. The former quarterback’s growth in his new position has been both rapid and remarkable, according to position coach Marcus Satterfield.
Haarberg, who began his transition during bowl practices last season, has made huge strides since the spring. «Heinrich from spring to now is a totally different tight end,» Satterfield said. «I’m proud of the steps he’s taken from the spring to summer, from week one to week two.» Now, Haarberg is among the top three tight ends on the team’s depth chart.
According to Satterfield, Haarberg’s biggest improvement has been his increasing comfort with the physical nature of blocking and contact. Beyond his technical growth, his athleticism has also been a major asset. Satterfield noted that Haarberg clocked a «ridiculous» straight-line speed of 22 miles per hour during summer drills.
His background as a quarterback has also helped him develop a keen understanding of football timing and space.
With his athleticism and commitment, Haarberg possesses a high upside for the team. Satterfield said the development won’t stop when the season begins, as the team will continue to work with him individually to refine his skills.
