Max Pacioretty, former captain of the Montreal Canadiens and one of the NHL’s most respected forwards, has officially announced his retirement, closing the chapter on a remarkable 17-season career defined by leadership, resilience, and elite performance.
Drafted in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens, Pacioretty amassed 681 points (335 goals, 346 assists) across 939 regular-season games, leaving a lasting legacy with every team he represented: Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 2012, he received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, honoring his dedication and courage following a serious injury. In 2015, he was named captain of the Canadiens by a vote of his teammates, solidifying his role as a leader both on and off the ice.
Despite enduring multiple injuries—including two Achilles tendon ruptures between 2022 and 2023—Pacioretty returned to play and contributed during the 2025 playoffs with the Maple Leafs, exemplifying his unwavering commitment to the game.
As he transitions into a new chapter, Pacioretty joins the Michigan Hockey coaching staff as a special assistant to head coach Brandon Naurato, returning to the university where he starred during the 2007–08 season and earned CCHA All-Rookie Team honors.
