David Reinbacher’s Canadiens Recall Imminent as Cap Space Cleared for Bell Centre Debut

MONTREAL — The wait for David Reinbacher is effectively over. According to Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, the Montreal Canadiens have officially accumulated enough prorated salary cap space since Monday to facilitate the recall of their prized defensive prospect. For the first time this season, Kent Hughes no longer needs to manipulate the roster to fit the 19-year-old’s contract under the NHL limit.

The «Logical Solution» at Place Bell

With the NHL trade deadline having passed without Hughes landing a veteran right-shot defenseman, the organization is looking 20 minutes north to Laval. Reinbacher has been playing the best hockey of his career in the AHL, recording 23 points in 49 games with an impressive +18 rating. In the absence of teammate Adam Engstrom, Reinbacher has stepped into a massive role, frequently logging over 25 minutes of ice time per game and proving he can handle a heavy workload.

Stabilizing the Blueline

The timing couldn’t be better for head coach Martin St-Louis. The Canadiens’ defensive corps has hit a rough patch lately, with both Arber Xhekaj and Jayden Struble struggling for consistency. At 6-foot-3, Reinbacher provides a blend of size, mobile puck-moving ability, and defensive reliability that could provide an immediate boost to a team currently holding a 37-20-10 record.

The Financial Breakdown

By waiting until mid-March, the Canadiens have successfully «banked» enough space to stay $1,760 below the cap limit even with Reinbacher on the active roster. The team also retains three regular recalls, giving them flexibility for the final stretch of the season. With every point critical in the Atlantic Division playoff race, the Bell Centre crowd is primed to welcome the «Austrian Wall» to the big stage.
