BROSSARD — Montreal Canadiens goaltending prospect Jacob Fowler has officially been named the Molson Cup recipient for the month of October following a dominant opening stretch to the season. The 21-year-old netminder was also named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month, securing his spot as one of the most exciting young talents in hockey.
Record-Breaking Shutout and Key Milestones: How Jacob Fowler Earned Top Honors
The Melbourne, Florida native put together a phenomenal October, posting a 7-1-0 record across eight starts alongside two shutouts, a 1.84 goals-against average, and a .932 save percentage.
Fowler was named the first star of the game on three separate occasions: October 10 against Detroit, October 25 in Winnipeg, and October 27 in St. Louis. During that matchup against the Blues, the young goalie set a franchise record for the most saves registered in a shutout by a rookie goaltender:
- Career-High Saves: Stopped all 46 shots faced against St. Louis to set the team record.
- Weekly Accolades: Earned NHL Third Star of the Week honors (Oct. 19-25) and NHLPA Player of the Week.
- Historic Winning Streak: Became just the third goaltender aged 21 or younger in Canadiens franchise history to win six consecutive starts following an October 31 victory over Pittsburgh.
Bell Centre Ceremony Set Before Matchup Against Winnipeg Jets
The organization confirmed that a special pre-game ceremony will take place ahead of Tuesday’s contest against the Winnipeg Jets at the Bell Centre to formally honor the young goaltender’s monthly achievement.
Fowler’s meteoric rise gives Montreal fans a genuine sense of stability between the pipes as the franchise continues to reshape its roster core around elite young talent.
