Lincoln, NE — What once seemed like an unlikely season for DeShon Singleton has turned into a story of redemption and national recognition. The Nebraska safety, who was previously not expected to be on the 2025 roster, has been named East-West Shrine Bowl Defensive Player of the Week following a standout performance against Michigan State.
Singleton’s eligibility was restored after a court ruling reconsidered his Junior College years, granting him an extra season. He responded with a game-changing display, leading a defensive effort that kept Michigan State’s offense off balance throughout the contest.
His two interceptions in the second quarter came as Spartans quarterback Aidan Chiles struggled to control his throws in windy conditions. Both passes sailed high over their intended targets, and Singleton was perfectly positioned to capitalize. Though Nebraska’s offense couldn’t fully convert the turnovers into points, the defensive impact was undeniable.
“It really just was practicing all week,” Singleton said after the game. “Knowing and doing my assignment. Executing on the play, and when the play is there just make the play.”
Singleton has started every game this season and currently holds 23 tackles, one tackle for loss, a fumble recovery, and now two interceptions that have placed him firmly in the national spotlight.
