Nebraska’s trip to Minneapolis ended in disaster Saturday night as the Huskers fell 24–6 to Minnesota in a performance head coach Matt Rhule called “just a really bad effort.” With nine sacks allowed, a stagnant offense, and a defense that gave up a 71-yard touchdown run, the team looked overwhelmed from the opening snap.
“They were the more physical team. They made the plays they needed to make and they beat us pretty convincingly,” Rhule admitted postgame. Despite a week of solid practice and travel, Nebraska never found rhythm. A missed assignment on the first play set the tone, and the Huskers failed to score on two early red zone trips that could have changed the game’s trajectory.
Injuries compounded the collapse. Offensive linemen Rocco Spindler and Elijah Pritchett both exited, with Spindler reportedly taken to the hospital for a serious hand injury. Rhule refused to use the depleted line as an excuse, but acknowledged Minnesota “got after us.”
Defensively, Nebraska struggled to contain shallow crosses and missed key tackles. A fourth-down holding penalty proved costly, extending a Minnesota drive that led to a touchdown. “We were on our heels,” Rhule said. “We never quite put them under duress.”
Quarterback Dylan Raiola didn’t mince words. “We got outplayed. As simple as that,” he said. “Six points is pretty brutal. I’ll take all the blame. I’ll take all the hate. That’s part of my job.”
Cornerback Ceyair Wright emphasized the need for better tackling and mental resilience. “We just have to figure out what went wrong, maybe rethink our mindset,” he said. Running back Emmett Johnson echoed the sentiment, calling the next week “crucial for our program.”
With speculation swirling around Rhule and the Penn State job, players insisted their focus was intact. But the result on the field told a different story. For the second straight year, Nebraska finds itself in the same spot — outplayed, outmatched, and searching for answers.
