Nebraska’s nightmare in Minneapolis continues. After a crushing 24–6 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, head coach Matt Rhule faced the media with blunt honesty and few excuses. The defeat marks Nebraska’s sixth consecutive loss to Minnesota and extends their winless drought in Minneapolis to a full decade.
“Obviously very disappointing. Credit to them. They were the more physical team,” Rhule said postgame. “They beat us pretty convincingly.”
Rhule described the Huskers as “out of whack” from the opening snap, citing a missed assignment on the first play and the loss of key players Rocco Spindler and Elijah Pritchett. Spindler was hospitalized with a serious hand injury, while Pritchett was ejected for targeting.
The coach didn’t sugarcoat the team’s offensive collapse, pointing to nine sacks, poor third-down execution, and a failure to capitalize in the red zone.
“One for five on third down in the first half, just a really bad effort,” he admitted.
Defensively, Rhule acknowledged the impact of a 14-play, 98-yard drive that broke Nebraska’s momentum. Penalties, missed tackles, and fatigue plagued the unit throughout the night.
“We never scored any points on offense, so we just didn’t play a complete game,” he said. “Just nothing materialized in the second half.”
Despite a strong week of practice, Rhule said there were no signs this collapse was coming. But fans and analysts are already questioning the team’s preparation, execution, and leadership as the season spirals.
