The Nebraska Huskers volleyball team has once again ignited debate in the college sports world after sweeping Iowa 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 on Thursday night before 8,662 fans at John Book Arena. With the victory, the No. 1 Huskers locked up at least a share of the Big Ten title, continuing their perfect season at 27-0 overall and 17-0 in conference play.
While many celebrate Nebraska’s dominance, others question whether the hype surrounding the program overshadows the competition. The numbers are staggering: it is NU’s 37th overall conference title and sixth in the Big Ten, marking the first time the Huskers have won three consecutive conference crowns since their Big 12 run from 2004 to 2008. Head coach Dani Busboom Kelly also made history, becoming the first volleyball coach in Big Ten history to win a conference title in her debut year at a school.
The match itself showcased Nebraska’s depth and power. Harper Murray led with 11 kills and six digs, Andi Jackson added 10 kills and three blocks, while Virginia Adriano contributed nine kills, three blocks, and three aces. Taylor Landfair surpassed 1,500 career kills, and Bergen Reilly dished out 34 assists with seven digs. Nebraska hit .384 as a team, holding Iowa to a meager .073.
Celebrating their 350th consecutive regular-season sellout, the Huskers once again proved why they are considered the juggernaut of college volleyball. Yet with three matches still left—including Saturday’s clash against No. 17 Indiana—the question remains: are the Huskers simply unbeatable, or is the Big Ten crown already being handed to them too soon?
