Nebraska finally broke its silence. Head coach Matt Rhule addressed quarterback Dylan Raiola’s unexpected transfer on Wednesday night during his appearance on the Huskers Radio Network, marking the first time the program publicly reacted to the departure of its former five‑star centerpiece.
Raiola, once heralded as the quarterback who would restore Nebraska’s national relevance, spent nearly two seasons as the Cornhuskers’ starter, posting a 13–9 record before a season‑ending injury against USC on November 1 effectively closed his chapter in Lincoln. His exit immediately sent shockwaves through the fan base and the national transfer market.
Rhule’s comments were measured but unmistakably pointed. He expressed support for Raiola’s decision while simultaneously signaling confidence in the program’s future.
“If he needs a fresh start, I’m going to pray that he finds the right place and that he has so much success,” Rhule said. “With that being said, there’s a lot of great QBs out there and a lot of guys who want to play at Nebraska.”

“You get the best available,” Holgorsen said. “Is it a pocket guy? A dual‑threat guy? You look at the overall body of work. We’re actively watching quarterbacks, and have been watching quarterbacks to try to make those decisions.”
