Nebraska’s quarterback room is once again shaken. After just one season in Lincoln, Marcos Davila has decided to enter the transfer portal, according to reports from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer.
Davila arrived at the Cornhuskers from Purdue last offseason, but his time with the team was almost symbolic: he appeared in two games — against Akron and Houston Christian — without attempting a single pass. For most of the year he was the fourth-string quarterback, though after Dylan Raiola’s season-ending injury he was elevated and traveled with the team to face UCLA and Penn State.
His departure adds to Raiola’s, who also plans to enter the portal, and to Jalyn Gramstad’s exit, the third-string quarterback for most of the season, who has exhausted his eligibility. The picture leaves Nebraska with a glaring void at the most critical position on the field.
A native of Midland, Texas, Davila was a high school star: he threw for 9,101 yards and 93 touchdowns, both school records. As a junior and senior he posted back-to-back 3,000-yard passing seasons with 66 touchdowns combined. Yet that production never translated to Lincoln.
The NCAA calendar adds another layer to the decision: the spring transfer window was eliminated and the winter window moved to January. Although the portal does not officially open until January 2, players can announce their intentions beforehand, as Davila has done, though they cannot have official contact with other programs until registered.
The message is clear: Nebraska loses another quarterback without ever seeing him throw a pass, and the uncertainty surrounding the future of the position becomes the real headline of the season.
