As spring practice gets underway in Lincoln, Nebraska’s offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has already identified a potential breakout star. Freshman tight end Luke Sorensen has caught the veteran coach’s eye, earning high praise for his physical presence and athletic versatility just months after arriving from Servite High School in California.
A physical force at tight end
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds, Sorensen brings a rare combination of size and receiving polish to the Huskers’ roster. During his senior year of high school, he proved his worth as a reliable target, hauling in 25 catches for over 300 yards. It is this «power-receiving» hybrid profile that has Holgorsen convinced the freshman is ready for the big stage.
«He’s powerful. His pad level is low, and he’s a 240-pound dude,» Holgorsen remarked during the opening week of practice. «If you watch him run, with his power, I don’t know how we can keep him off the field.»
Searching for a second threat
The Huskers are currently looking for a legitimate second option to complement senior leader Luke Lindenmeyer, who led the position group in 2025 with 29 receptions. With the tight end position becoming increasingly vital in Holgorsen’s offensive scheme, Sorensen’s ability to compete for early playing time could provide the «infusion of youth» the program desperately needs to keep defenses off-balance.
