What began as a sudden departure from Lincoln in 2023 has ended in institutional turmoil in Columbus. Ted Carter, the former President of the University of Nebraska who left to lead Ohio State, has resigned effectively immediately after admitting to an «inappropriate relationship.» The news has sent shockwaves through the sports world and could alter the future of college football as we know it.
A Stunning Confession Following a three-hour meeting with the university’s board of trustees on Monday, March 9, 2026, Carter disclosed a relationship with an individual seeking public resources for a personal business. This turn of events carries a bitter sting for Huskers fans, who still remember how Carter left Nebraska overnight to lead the Buckeyes.
Massive Impact on College Football Beyond the personal scandal, Carter’s exit leaves a power vacuum at a critical inflection point for the NCAA. As the president of Ohio State—arguably the most valuable brand in college sports—Carter was a leading voice in negotiations regarding the new College Football Playoff (CFP) format, the sport’s economic restructuring, and the potential shift toward an NFL-style alignment.
With the former Nebraska leader now out of the picture, Ohio State loses its seat at the most important decision-making table in the country, leaving the future of college football governance in a state of total uncertainty.
