Spring in Nebraska brings more than just winds across the plains; it brings a renewed energy that smells like high-level football. Following the second week of practice, the Huskers opened their doors to the press, and the initial impressions couldn’t be better.
Geep Wade: The Master of Details
If anything stayed etched in the minds of those attending, it was the intensity of Geep Wade, the offensive line coach. Wade is a whirlwind of emotion, capable of switching from a shout of encouragement to a calm teaching mode in the blink of an eye. His go-to phrase, «Go again,» echoed throughout the practice as players attacked the sled. Wade isn’t just looking for strength; he’s looking for perfection in the details.
An Elite «Quarterback Room»
The depth at the quarterback position is perhaps the most enviable in the country. With Anthony Colandrea, T.J. Lateef, and Danny Kaelin occupying the top three spots on the depth chart, Nebraska boasts FBS experience that very few teams can match. Under the watchful eye of QB coach Glenn Thomas, the signal-callers worked on footwork and release, with Colandrea standing out in play-action and screen drills.
Positive Vibes and Body Language
Beyond the plays, what truly stood out was the team culture. In just 25 minutes of observation, the positive energy was palpable. The players support each other, keep their heads high in the face of criticism, and actively listen to their coaches without making excuses. In football, body language is everything, and these Huskers seem to be building mental armor against frustration.
