The South Florida-to-Lincoln pipeline is stronger than ever. Nebraska football made a massive statement on Friday evening as Miami Palmetto wide receiver Kaden Howard announced his commitment to the Huskers. The explosive 2027 athlete chose the Big Red over heavy-hitting offers from programs like Missouri, Mississippi State, and Louisville.
A track star with Husker DNA
Standing at 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, Howard isn’t just a reliable target—he is a certified burner. He recently clocked a blistering 10.6 in the 100-meter dash during one of his first-ever track meets. Nebraska’s coaching staff identified his talent early, offering him in January and getting him on campus by March, a visit that solidified his decision.
«I already liked Nebraska, but to go visit and see everything made me like it even more,» Howard shared. «I love the coaches, and I love what they are doing at that place.»
The «Jacory Barney» effect and Coach Shorts
Howard isn’t coming to Lincoln as a stranger. He has strong connections with current Huskers like Jacory Barney Jr., Cortez Mills, and Larry Miles, who all vouched for the program’s upward trajectory.
However, it was his bond with wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts that sealed the deal:
- Personal Connection: «We talk like we’re best buddies, for real,» Howard said.
- High Standards: He praised Shorts for being a hardworking coach who pushes players past their limits while maintaining a genuine relationship with them.
With this addition, Nebraska now has two dynamic wide receivers in its 2027 class, as Howard joins local Millard South standout Tay Ellis. Howard has already scheduled his official visit for the weekend of June 12, marking him as a cornerstone for the future Husker offense.
