Nebraska’s search for a dominant offensive line may finally be over. Following the Red-White spring scrimmage at Memorial Stadium, Huskers’ transfer quarterback Anthony Colandrea didn’t hold back his admiration for the big men up front, calling them the «best part» of the 2026 team.
Protection Leading the Way
After a 2025 season plagued by protection issues, Nebraska made the offensive line a priority, adding three experienced starters through the portal to join veterans Elijah Pritchett and Justin Evans. The results were immediate: the unit surrendered only one sack during the final spring scrimmage.
«They’re awesome,» Colandrea told the Husker Radio Network. «I feel like, as an offense, they’re the best part of our team. Those guys are elite up front.»
Colandrea Fits Right In
The former UNLV and Virginia signal-caller has only been in Lincoln for three months, but he already looks the part of a leader. During the scrimmage, Colandrea went 12-for-19 for 80 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one interception. He also showcased his mobility, a «unique gift» that head coach Matt Rhule says has become contagious among the QB room.
Colandrea credited the quick transition to the high standards of Offensive Coordinator Dana Holgorsen. «Coach Holgorsen holds everyone to a high standard, and shoot, that holds me to a high standard, too,» the rising senior remarked.
Building Bonds (and Handshakes)
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Colandrea is winning over the locker room with his personality. Known for creating unique, personalized handshakes with almost every teammate, the QB views it as a vital part of team chemistry. «Handshakes are connections for guys and build the relationships you need,» he explained.
As the Huskers head into the post-spring period, the focus shifts to refining details. With a Top-20 offensive background from his time at UNLV, Colandrea is determined to help Nebraska’s offense climb the national rankings in 2026.
