The Nebraska Cornhuskers are facing an early test in their 2026 recruiting class. Less than two weeks after high-profile wide receiver Kaden Howard pledged his commitment to Matt Rhule and the Huskers, a new «wrinkle» has emerged. The talented pass-catcher has announced an upcoming visit to Central Florida—a school now led by former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost.
The «Frost» Factor
The timing of Howard’s announcement has raised eyebrows across Lincoln. Howard, a standout at Miami-Palmetto High School, is scheduled to be in Orlando on April 27 to check out the UCF Knights in person.
While some analysts suggest that Howard is simply «humoring» the local school due to its proximity to his home in Miami, others believe the Knights and Scott Frost are putting on a «full-court press» to keep the explosive playmaker in the state of Florida.
Why Nebraska?
When Howard initially «pulled the trigger» for the Huskers, he cited the elite environment and the relationship he built with Matt Rhule’s staff as the deciding factors.
«I chose Nebraska because of the coaching staff, how they develop their players, and how well I fit into their system,» Howard told Rivals at the time of his commitment.
The UCF Threat
While Scott Frost may not be able to replicate the massive developmental infrastructure currently in place at Nebraska, UCF has one major «arrow in the quiver»: immediate playing time. As an undersized but elite speedster, Howard might find a quicker path to the field in Orlando than in the crowded wide receiver room in Lincoln.
For Matt Rhule, the mission is now clear: protect the commitment and ensure that Howard’s trip to Orlando is nothing more than a courtesy visit.
