Husker head coach Matt Rhule said everyone just has to get a little bit better.
Matt Rhule met with all the returning Nebraska players on Monday, he said during The Husker Football Show.
They’ll finish up their semester classes, hopefully working out and healing in the weeks ahead before heading home for winter break.
«And then come back ready to go in the spring,» Rhule said on the show. «As I said to them, that’s five losses by really a field goal or overtime. So we don’t need to do something drastic. What we do need to do though is have everyone just get a little bit better.
We need to get about four points a game better – offense, defense and special teams – and I think when you take that approach, it feels within your control. That’s what we’re asking our guys to do.»
Rhule added coaches will be around for players this week and then go out and recruit «and try to make our team better.»
The Husker head coach will have a post-season press conference at 11:30 on Wednesday morning.
A important month is ahead after Nebraska concluded a 5-7 season. The portal opens up on Dec. 4 with early signing day starting on Dec. 20.
Prior to the Iowa game, Rhule spoke of how he was looking forward to talking with each player this week.
«I look at next week as an unbelievable opportunity to sit with players and talk about what you see with them and what you see with what they can be. I don’t know if young people get that enough.
I’m going to sit with every single player, walk-on and scholarship and just talk about where I see them and what I think they can do and then have them talk to me,» he said then. «The good thing for me is most of those guys I have that kind of relationship with already where I’m sitting down with them but it might be right for somebody to go somewhere else, it might be right for someone to sit here and tough it out so I have those conversations all year long…
«It’s a really great place to be, it’s a really great program to be in. If it’s not right for somebody, then we’ll help them with all that we have.”
