Montreal Canadiens Sign Vancouver Giants Forward Tyler Thorpe to Entry-Level Contract
The Montreal Canadiens have announced the signing of Vancouver Giants forward Tyler Thorpe to a three-year, entry-level contract, spanning the 2025-26 to 2027-28 seasons. Additionally, Thorpe has signed an AHL professional tryout for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
Tyler Thorpe, a 6-foot-4 right winger, has demonstrated significant growth and potential, culminating in this NHL contract. In the 2024-25 season, Thorpe played all 68 games with the Vancouver Giants, recording 52 points (27 goals, 25 assists).
He ranked second in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for shorthanded goals with six and tied for second on the Giants with a +11 rating. He also contributed one goal and two assists in five playoff games.
«I can’t thank everyone in the Giants organization enough, let alone the guys who brought me in here originally,» Thorpe stated. «If you’re telling seven-year-old me that I was signing an NHL contract at 19, I would have said ‘there’s no way.’ Now that it’s becoming a reality it’s remarkable.»

Thorpe’s journey to this point is notable, as he was initially undrafted in the WHL. He signed with the Giants in October 2022 after starting the 2022-23 season with the Langley Rivermen. Since his WHL debut in 2022-23, he has played 167 games, scoring 54 goals and providing 48 assists for a total of 102 points.
A Richmond, B.C. native, Thorpe was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft. His signing marks a significant step in his professional hockey career and adds a promising young talent to the Canadiens’ roster.
