Three-year, entry-level contract for Tyler Thorpe

Montreal Canadiens Sign Tyler Thorpe to Three-Year Entry-Level Contract.

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes announced today that the team has secured forward Tyler Thorpe with a three-year, entry-level contract, effective from the 2025-26 season through 2027-28. Additionally, Thorpe has signed an AHL professional tryout for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.  

Tyler Thorpe, a 19-year-old right winger, showcased his talent and potential during the 2024-25 season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In 68 games, Thorpe recorded 52 points, comprised of 27 goals and 25 assists, while also accumulating 69 penalty minutes.

He further contributed to the Giants’ playoff campaign with one goal and two assists in five games.  

Thorpe’s WHL career, which began in the 2022-23 season, spans 167 games, during which he tallied 54 goals and 48 assists. His physical presence, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 210 pounds, is complemented by his on-ice contributions. He also accumulated 147 penalty minutes and added three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in nine career playoff games.  

The Richmond, BC native was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft. This signing represents a significant step in Thorpe’s professional hockey career and bolsters the Canadiens’ roster with a promising young talent.
