Former Cornhuskers wide receiver Trey Palmer is back in the NFL and back home. The speedy player, who was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, was claimed this Wednesday by the New Orleans Saints, a team in his home state.
Palmer, a native of Kentwood, Louisiana, has been placed on the team’s 53-man roster and will now be able to continue his professional career close to his family. In his two seasons with the Buccaneers, the wide receiver showed his potential by catching 51 passes for 557 yards and four touchdowns, in addition to offering his speed for special teams.
Palmer’s time at Nebraska, though only one year, left an indelible mark on the program’s history. In 2022, he earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and broke the university record with 1,043 receiving yards, in addition to accumulating 71 receptions and nine touchdowns.
To make the story even more meaningful, Palmer will be reunited with his former wide receivers coach at Nebraska, Keith Williams, who now holds the same position with the Saints, which could facilitate his transition and adaptation to the New Orleans team.
